The Oral Pathology Laboratory, Inc. is fully computerized, permitting instant retrieval of current cases and past case
information. The pathology report includes both a gross and microscopic description, final diagnosis with corresponding ICD 10
code (for insurance claims) and any comments deemed necessary for proper patient management.
Patients are billed directly for our laboratory services which are covered by medical
insurance. The laboratory participates with many insurance plans and files claims directly with them. Our laboratory also
participates with Medicare and files patient claims electronically. Most managed care companies will pay for our services if the
patient supplies the submitting doctor's office with the proper referral, and a copy of the referral is sent to us with the biopsy
request form. For any questions about billing, please call 1-800-675-5221.
In addition to our diagnostic service the Oral Pathology Laboratory, Inc. serves as the academic basis for an ADA fully accredited residency program in oral pathology. It is here at the laboratory, that dentists entering this specialty are able to develop their diagnostic skills and knowledge of oral and maxillofacial pathology, while studying with the attending staff.
The diagnostic services provided by the Oral Pathology Laboratory, Inc. will
be a useful diagnostic adjunct to:
- Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons
- Endodontists
- Periodontists
- General Dentists
- Dermatologists
- Head and Neck Surgeons
- Otolaryngologists
The Oral Pathology Laboratory, Inc. supplies kits containing formalin filled specimen bottles, biopsy request forms, U.S. Postal Service approved mailing containers and envelopes, as well as addressed postage paid labels. As mentioned above, free specimen pick-up with overnight delivery to the lab from anywhere in the United States is available. In addition to the use of tissue biopsy in the diagnosis or oral lesions, we encourage the use of the cytologic smear, which is particularly useful as a non-invasive technique to establish a diagnosis of candidiasis and herpetic infections. Smear kits and instructions for their use are also supplied by the laboratory.
